So, I'm in NYC for 7 days as of just now -- work is sending me to an OSX Server training at the Apple facility here, and putting me up at a full-service Marriott. I'm writing at the moment on a work-provided OSX laptop using the hotel's free internet connection, which worked as soon as I plugged the two together. My laptop, mobile phone, and Zire 71 are all happily charging. A free fridge is busily getting cool in the corner, which will cut down on breakfast costs considerably ($17 after surcharges, taxes, and gratuity included). A free DVD player is on its way up.

This rocks.

[Edit: they thought I'd said "CD player". No DVD players after all. Maybe we'll watch the DVD I brought on the laptop. Heh.]

Made my apparently-traditional pilgrimage to the nearest body of water at first opportunity. Saw:

-Pothole in the intersection of 49th St and Lexington Ave, with the top 2/3 of a city trash can visible within, which could have accommodated two more.

-First 11 bicyclists seen: no helmets or lights.

-The Trump World Tower, 85 floors, all residential -- the world's largest apartment building. This I learned from a pausing bicycle tour, each member sporting a helmet, orange vest, and 2 lights.

-The MEE Noodle Shop, a chinese eat-in/takeout/delivery place doing just a crazy amount of business at 9pm. Ate a large yummy meal for $5. New York visitors should take note. 2nd Ave and 49th St.

-Did not see the East River, as there is no pedestrian walkway along it, at least at this latitude. Growl.
