I started playing Kingdom of Loathing, because I wanted to figure out what the heck cthulhia was talking about.

It's a satirical and snarky Massively Multiple Online Role-Playing Game. Entirely web-based, and free. Very fun, yet addiction-resisting since it only doles out 40 adventuring actions per day.
