Primary followup
Sep. 15th, 2004 04:21 pmJudging by the results reported at http://www.cbs4boston.com/elections, only three incumbent legislators lost their seats as a result of the Democratic primary: Vincent Ciampa, Mark Howland, and Chris Asselin. All were in favor of a same-sex marriage ban. Victors over the first two (Carl Sciortino and Stephen Canessa) were endorsed as Freedom to Marry supporters by Bay Windows. Yay!
The victor over Asselin was Sean Curran, who
palmwiz tells me is an old guard Democrat who probably will vote for the amendment in its current form.
Word of warning: the flimsy Massachusetts Republican party is hugely energized to win back some seats this year on the gay marriage issue. Mitt Romney will be leading the charge throughout the state for the next couple months. Please find out if the seats you'll be voting for in November are contested, and take appropriate action!
