Apr. 20th, 2003 08:28 amSaw Adaptation at LSC with Brandi last night. Entertainingly self-referential! At one point the main character wonders, "I wonder if I'll play me in the movie?" and for a moment I thought, "Evidently!" -- never have I been so taken in by the reality of a movie. (Nicolas Cage plays "Adaptation" screenwriter Charlie Kaufman. I knew that going in, but was induced to forget this.) We came home and spent an hour online sorting out what things were historical and what weren't. The first 28 pages of _The Orchid Thief_ on amazom.com were like finding buried treasure.
Charles Kaufman's work that's shooting has the (possibly working) title of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", which has a delicious SF premise, sounds positively Phillip K. Dick-ian. See http://us.imdb.com/Title?0338013 if you like to read the plot capsule.
