On Being Moved In With
Jan. 13th, 2002 11:59 pmGood news: my landlord has given me the green light for Brandi to move in with me for a 35% increase in rent. Yay!!!
I live in an oddly laid-out 1-bedroom basement apartment. I love the space, love my landlord, and love the location (near Davis Square, a 10 minute walk to both my massage/counseling office and the T). I'm at peace with moving eventually because Brandi and I want a 2-bedroom, but I really really want to wait until one opens up in one of my landlord's two buildings.
Brandi lived with me for 6 weeks while she was between her previous apartment and her current one. we hadn't been looking for moving in together at that point in our relationship, but discovered by the end of that time that we totally loved living together! Even in this space which isn't really big enough for two, we didn't get on each others' nerves at all nor did we have any breakdowns. Both of us enjoy the others' non-interacting presence when we're doing other things, so it's really comfortable.
Since then we've thought about all the different ways we could use this space more efficiently, including using a tiny room with a built-in desk for her sewing space, and have realized that we really could have everything here that both of us need to live and do our home stuff, *except* the second bedroom, which we're willing to do without for the time being to reap other advantages.
Brandi has now given official notice to her current roommate to start looking for a new person, and will stay until future-person moves in, which will be no sooner than 3/1. (And no later, I hope!)
I'm excited to have my sweetie live with me! And new-relationship-step anxiety is vastly reduced by having had the living-together experiment come out so well the first time. Whee.
