Tricky Jotto
Jan. 14th, 2002 10:33 pmI've been playing
queue's Modified Jotto by email with Q himself lately, and recently went nuts with a Jotto-puzzle that emerged. Q's modification is that you're only allowed to guess a word that would be legal given all the information you've gotten so far. I got into a spot where I couldn't come up with any legal guess, broke down and applied pen&paper brute force, and proved that the word had to be blvns or some other impossible anagram. (I was wrong, and eventually found the word and the hole in my logic through which it had slipped.)
Anyone care to take a crack at the following? Each 5-letter word is my guess at Q's word, and each number following is the number of letters in the guess he said were correct. Note also that, indeed, each guess could have been the word given all previous responses.

The word is legal by Scrabble rules and when you find it, you'll have no doubt that it Is A Word.
Don't give it away in your comments please!
