Sometimes, I turn into a newswire
Oct. 7th, 2003 08:09 pmAs you may have heard, Roy of Siegfried & Roy was critically injured by a tiger onstage recently. This article from the New York Times puts this event in the context of the history of Las Vegas' shows. S&R led the transition from arousal to amazement in Las Vegas acts (and therefore from an audience of sophisticates to one of families); now the balance is shifting back. (No registration req'd.)
I also appreciated reading, "circus performers have traditionally acted as if they 'had superhuman ability to control the beasts of nature.' But [Roy] Horn made no such claim, depicting himself instead as simply a man who loved animals." --Penn Jillette

Date: 2003-10-08 07:49 am (UTC)I especially appreciate commands and buttons to insert the commonest html markup in posts -- link, img, lj-cut/user/community, bold/ital, etc.
It also has a better interface for managing your friends list than lj.
(By the way, have we met?)

Date: 2003-10-08 01:18 pm (UTC)Don't know if you looked at my journal, but having read through yours I think you might be interested in (and also maybe get a laugh out of) some of the stuff in this post of mine from earlier today about cell phones. It's amusing and distressing at the same time, which are the kind of things that usually really spark my interest:
Unintended Cell Phone Calls Cost 911 Call Centers Millions of $s (http://www.livejournal.com/users/ultraferret/2381.html)
