So, one of my under-used abilities in my career so far is online searching. I'm really good at it, and it's fun.
We brainstormed about that a bit on the way to and from DC last weekend, and I remembered fatbrain.com -- a site which I recalled to be an open forum where people could post questions and others could offer prices to answer.
fatbrain.com is gone (bought by and pointlessly redirecting to bn.com), however there are similar sites out there, the most eye-catching being, Google Answers!
Their FAQ says they've been swamped with applications to be paid Google Researchers and have closed the door to new GR's for now. It suggests that they may open it again later, and that being a good commenter in the Answers forum builds good evidence that you'd be a qualified GR. (If you post a question and someone answers it in a comment, you can retract it and just pay your $.50 listing fee. Actual Answers cost $2.00+, the questioner sets the price.)
I doubt I'll be fanatical enough to build up enough comment history to get in as a future GR, but I'm going to browse the forum anyway, see where it takes me.
