I, Robot review
Jul. 14th, 2004 11:14 pmGood dumb summer movie. Not based on any particular plot of Asimov's, but the character of Susan Calvin and the three laws of robotics were in a good enough ballpark not to offend me. The central mystery plot was even Asimov-esque. On the other hand Asimov would never have had his robots running around in mobs killing people -- that was always the irrational, *unfounded* fear he attributed to a misunderstanding humanity.
That said, some of the fight scenes were great eye-candy. I'd have to guess they got a martial arts choreographer for a couple robot-vs-robot conflicts, which I'd like to see again in slow motion.
Shia LeBeouf was so underused that his character amounted to an editing mistake. I thought he was outstanding as the lead actor in "Holes" and wish him better treatment.
