Dense update
Sep. 14th, 2004 09:18 pm-As of today we have cable internet at home -- for the first time since 8/19. I haven't read LJ since thereabouts.
-I moved! I now live in a house that I own with
mud_puppy,
ceo, and
gosling. We're sharing our unit with
watercolorblue. I love my house and I'm thrilled with my housemates!
-We've had no kitchen since we moved in. We had contractors come in to rip out the very inadequate kitchen that came with the house and ordered new cabinets from Home Depot. The new cabinets just arrived today! Hopefully a usable kitchen will soon follow. Left to my own devices I'm a microwave cook anyway --
mud_puppy has been noticing this lack more than I.
-I turned 33 on 9/10/04. No celebration since I've been so crazy with the house. We might do something later in the month.
-My boss told me today that (to paraphrase) they are making my position full-time whether I like it or not in 90 days. They love me and very much hope that I'll take the change to full-time. Personally, I know that full-time sysadminning isn't sustainable for me, though I may end up taking the full-time position for a few months while I work out what I'll do instead. I'm looking into whether I can go to work for the biggest of our publishing divisions and remain a three-days-a-week employee. (That division loves me more than my own group does.)
-I was thinking about a change in career anyway, though I was hoping to put off the matter until spring so that we'd have a chance to catch up with the cost of all this contracting, cabinets, and whatnot. I'm not using the career part of my life to build anything exciting, but rather just coasting along doing something tolerably interesting to keep myself in cash and benefits.
-The massage/counselling side of things is not developing either -- it'd be very useful if I could find a named discipline which used both those skillsets, whose values and methodology I could really get behind. I have a huge potential as a healer that I'm not putting to work because I don't have a good way to present it and structure it for people.
