Update on three threads

Kitty: They had to take *four* teeth out of my poor Simon! He's home now and recovering fine, if woozy. I asked the kitty-dentist how his teeth could have gotten so bad, and he says mormally major cavity problems are due to an all-wet-food diet. I told him Simon has always been all-dry-food, and the "Dental Diet" variety at that. He said then it's most likely the case that Simon has a genetic predisposition for tooth decay, and said he might well need to have a couple more teeth extracted in 2-4 years that are today cleaned but vulnerable-looking. I need to call back and find out if brushing his teeth regularly would make enough of a difference to be wirth the cat-human conflict. The dentist also remarked that Simon didn't actually have mch tartar to clean off, so I'm guessing not, but I need the advice.
Total wallet impact: $630. Includes three zipcar trips, yesterday's office visit, and drops for his ear infection. Unquestionably worth it, but unexpected!
Jotto: Haven't touched it since last report. The playing-computer-game impulse is starting to reassert! Number of words of the 3252 words in my 5-letter-word dictionary that have an anagram in said dictionary: 950 (exactly). I was surprised at how high this was when I determined it, but 3 out of my 4 poll-respondents guessed higher! Settlers: A friend showed me the Settlers online game last night at OPN. I hadn't bothered to look into it before since I assumed that games would be interminable. However it turns out that with a "no trading" house rule, a game can be completed in 15-20 minutes! I tried a couple today, and was competitive even though I made at least one "not paying attention" mistake in each, so this will probably get more of my attention now and then. I'm sure I don't have enough time to maintain a high ladder rank should I achieve one, but the ladder server remembers how high you've *ever* been, so that's something to shoot for. Unfortunately I seem to pull most ahead when I play this game live as a result of out-trading everyone, so I'll have to find out how long "with-trading" games take.
