Apr. 28th, 2005 06:49 pmSo the *most* exciting part of my day was when, in the middle of a conference call to discuss the progress of an emergency multi-day data-migration to get a Terabyte of data off of failing hardware, the *new* hardware failed.
Even though I've been up since 1:00am (when I noticed an outage and then couldn't sleep even though there was nothing to do about it until I took the first T in to the office this morning), and am still baby-sitting data-moves zombie-like as I write this, this is *not* the kind of day that tends me towards burnout at work.
I actually enjoy days like this; they bring out the best in me. I communicate everything everyone needs to know, facilitate prompt but well-considered decisions, and keep straight the state of a zillion things. It's satisfying to put my skills to something like full use once in a while.
Let's not have them more than once in a while at Houghton Mifflin, though.
