I still intend to write more about my experiences at Akasha Con and the ideas generated there. However more recent events are taking priority!

I've received word that my employer will be outsourcing some or all of its IT department, starting in August. There was significant talk of some people being offered jobs in the new organization. I imagine myself to be a good candidate for that, being a unix sysadmin, OSX sysadmin, and perl programmer. However this also represents a natural opportunity to test the market and find out if there's anywhere I'd rather be working anyway.

I haven't applied for a job since 1997 (when I got this one), so my resume is dusty and my job-hunter skills are rusty. If anyone knows of a recruiter or counsellor whose style/service involves helping seekers brush up their marketability, as opposed to just placing them asap, please drop me a line.

Meanwhile I'm reading _The World Is Flat_ and getting caught up on the accelerating changes, of which my company's IT outsourcing is very much a part.

Maybe this was already obvious to some, but reading this book has made me realize: the Singularity comes about through globalization.

A long time ago you asked people about water bills. I just got mine if you still want information.
